| Come Join 4-H - It’s Exciting
By: Jacob Baker, Age 10 Leon Wide Awakes 4-H Club Prophetstown, IL 4-H is lots of fun and I hope you’ll read on to find out why I really like 4-H. I got into 4-H because my family has been in 4-H and I got hooked on it. My grandma, grandpa, mom and uncle were all in 4-H. I was a Cloverbud 4-H member for three years and now this is my third year in a regular 4-H club. In 4-H, I like the hands-on experiences where you get to do stuff by yourself. I like doing different things like working with wood and cooking. There are so many different things to do. You can show animals. You don’t have to be outside of town because you can show cats or dogs. If you do live out of town and like animals, then you can show cattle, hogs, and sheep and stuff like that. If you like working with art, you can go into visual arts. If you like working with motors and mechanics then you can work on a mechanical project. One thing that everybody can do is catch bugs for the entomology project. You get to show vegetables. You can make model rockets. You can show a rock display. I found that out this year. When you learn to cook you can make more exiting foods than your mom makes. I learned to make ham and cheese dogs and zoo snacks. You get to have club meetings once a month. You get to do games and you get to discuss stuff like where you want to take your club trip and what you want to do to raise money for that club trip. In the summertime you can go to 4-H Camp. You can go canoeing, rock climbing, shoot bow and arrows, and make crafts. There is a backwards scavenger hunt and a talent show night. What you do at the backwards scavenger hunt is a couple staff people ask questions and you get points for stuff you have like lint in your pocket or who can do a cartwheel or the boy with the most ponytails in his hair. You also get to have the Counselor Hunt where all of the counselors hide and you have to go around all over camp and find them. You get to sleep in cabins with your counselors and other campers. The neatest thing that I’ve done in 4-H is meeting other people and hands-on work. My favorite thing that I’ve made as a 4-H exhibit is my tractor shelf. All kids should join 4-H because you learn responsibility and how to work with other things like working with tools or in the garden. by Editor, theCity1.com |
