Soap Box Derby results from September 18


Makayla Hingtgen and Ryan Wiersema at the starting line.

The Soap Box Derby held Saturday, September 19 at the top of the Base Street Hill drew about 25 racers. The race began at 2 p.m. at the top of the Base Street hill.

Results are as follows:

6-7 year olds: 1st – Kyle Workman; 2nd – Eric Snyder; 3rd – Cora Wiersema.

8-9 year olds: 1st – Taylor Benters; 2nd – Ryan Wiersema; 3rd – Chasitee Forster.

10 year olds: 1st – Jacob Green; 2nd – Kelsey Snyder; 3rd – Seth Buckwalter.

11-18 year olds: 1st – Derek Meinsma; 2nd – Dirk Meinsma; 3rd – Emily Cox.

Best Crash: Amanda Wiersema and Eric Snyder

Most Unique Car: Emily and Evan Cox

Best Looking Car: Mike and Nick Buikema

Early Bird Award: Jacob Green

Dear Editor,

Thank you to Mickley Insurance and thecity1.com for supplying the insurance for the Soap Box Derby. Dalbert Wiebenga as our awesome announcer, John Bielema and Randy Betts who are at the starting block, the Longaneckers who haul in the hay bails. Also thank you to all the guys who caught the cars at the finish line, and everyone who helped out.

We also want to thank the drivers who all had good sportsmanship.

Thanks again for a great Soap Box Derby.
