Police Reports 09-20-04

On 09-13-04, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Morrison Police investigated a hit and run accident in the Sullivan Foods parking lot. A van, owned by Roy H. Velde, Morrison, was struck by an unknown vehicle, while the Velde van was parked in the parking lot. The Velde van received in excess of $500 damage. Morrison Police is asking for any information from someone who may have witnessed this accident.

On 09-13-04, Morrison Police charged two drivers in connection with a traffic accident that occurred on the evening of 08-21-04 at the intersection of Clinton and Park Streets. Donna M. Hartson, 44, St. Louis MO, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Robin R. Cooper, 48, Prophetstown, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Both drivers were issued a notice to appear in court. During the investigation, police determined that a northbound car, driven by Hartson, had stopped at a stop sign. The Hartson vehicle then proceeded into the intersection, striking a southbound motorcycle, driven by Cooper. The Cooper vehicle was turning left in the intersection to proceed south on Portland Avenue, a diagonal street. Cooper was subsequently airlifted to Illini Hospital, where she was later transferred to OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria.

Morrison Police were assisted in the investigation by an Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Officer.

The Morrison Police Department would like to remind resident that Morrison Municipal Code prohibits the placement of private signs in the parkway. The parkway is the public right-of-way, along the street, between the sidewalk and the curb. Parking vehicles in this are is also prohibited.
