Southside School’s third grade classes were found sitting around Main Street Monday morning, September 13, drawing sketches of downtown Morrison businesses. As part of their Social Studies class they are learning the importance of Main Street businesses to the Morrison community.
The students do their own drawing of the outside of the business they are assigned and then are given a shoebox in which they have to construct the building. They are also responsible to contact the business and find out what they can, about that business.
Third grade teachers who guide the children through this learning segment are Susan Keime, Jennifer Schipper and Nicol Wescott.
In talking with some of the students Braden Hagerman who was drawing Morrison Elevator stated, “It’s hard. I have some things to add because a truck just drove in.”
Lucas Peppers and Sadie Onken were partners in drawing The City Rebar Building. According to Lucas, “It’s fun. I thought we got to go in the building not sit outside across the street from it though.”
Kollin Burn who was drawing Thornson Chiropractic said, “It’s a nice field trip. Just sitting and relaxing but it is kind of hard.”
When the projects are completed, “Main Street” is then displayed at the Odell Public Library.
