It's a corny business

Jessica and Roger Pell Jr. decided that they wanted to make some extra money of their own to do extra curriculars at school, special activities and to teach responsibility.

Their dad Roger is one of the few farmers in the area who still picks ear corn. The idea came along to sell ears of corn for people who feed wild life.

The bags are set up in a Baker’s Dozen (13 ears) and sold for $1 a bag. They are then sold on a self-serve, trust system - put your $1 in the box and take your bag. “People have actually counted the ears and left the 13th ear behind thinking there were too many ears in the bag,” according to dad, Roger. “The kids have done better than I ever thought they would.”

They get quite a few people from the Chicago area out for a Sunday drive that say it is much cheaper than it is in Chicago. Jessica and Roger Jr. have raised close to $1,500.
