Stephanie Vavra, portraying Mrs. Charles Morrison, presented a short program to Morrison Unit District teachers and staff, Friday morning, August 20, 2004, during their institute day. Her story line narrated the life of Mr. and Mrs. Morrison in reference to the Sesquicentennial celebration.
The morning started with breakfast in the cafeteria, then moved into the auditorium. Members of the Morrison American Legion presented the colors followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Steve Wroble, principal at the Junior High, accompanied by Cynthia Perrizo led those in attendance with singing “God Bless America.”
Sally Gray, Board of Education president, welcomed the teachers and staff back. She stated that the establishment of public education in the state of Illinois is also celebrating 150 years. She read an article on 150 Years: A Celebration of Education which explained the changes in education for the last 150 years and made context to the similarities that still hold true to education.
Rev. Dan Swinson and Vavra will present this program to the different schools in Morrison on September 14, 2004. Vavra gave the teachers a help list to relate the Sesquicentennial to the children with activities to use in their teaching.
