Police Report 08-23

On 08-16-04, at approximately 8:25 p.m., Morrison Police arrested Randy L. Bender, 44, Lyndon, on an Ogle County warrant charging Bender with contempt. Bender was arrested at the intersection of Genesee Street and Wall Street after being stopped for a traffic violation. Bender was subsequently incarcerated at the Whiteside County Law Enforcement Center in lieu of $300 cash bond. Bender is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On 08-18-04, at approximately 5:05 p.m., Morrison Police arrested Amy Bellamy 41, Chicago, for domestic battery. Bellamy was arrested after officers were called to Hardees parking lot in response to a disturbance complaint. Bellamy was subsequently transported to the Whiteside County Law Enforcement Center pending an appearance before a judge. Bellamy is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On 08-19-04, at approximately 9 a.m., Morrison Police charged Evelyn M. Verkruysse, 57, Erie, with driving while license revoked. Verkruysse was charged after Whiteside County Court Services Officers observed Verkruysse driving away from a probation appointment in the 100 block of East North Street. Verkruysse was issued a notice to appear in court. Verkruysse is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On 08-21-04, at approximately 8:54 p.m., Morrison Police investigated a car-motorcycle collision at the intersection of South Clinton Street and East Park Street. A car driven by Donna M. Hartson, 44, Clinton, Iowa, was northbound on Clinton Street when the Hartson vehicle proceeded north from a stop sign. The Hartson vehicle struck a motorcycle, head-on, driven by Robin R. Cooper, 48, Prophetstown. Cooper was subsequently airlifted to Illini Hospital in Silvis where she was later transferred to St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. Hartson and the passengers in her vehicle were not injured in the collision. Total damage to the car and motorcycle exceeded $500.

An Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Officer was summoned to the scene to assist in the on-going investigation of this collision. Also assisting at the scene were personnel from the Morrison Fire Department, Morrison Ambulance, Illinois State Police Division of Operations, and the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office. The accident remains under investigation.
