Janet Ward is new high school principal |

Dr. Jody Ware, Superintendent of Morrison Schools, reported, “It is with great pleasure that I announce that the Morrison High School principal position has been filled by Mrs. Janet Ward.” Mrs. Ward is a former English-Speech teacher in Sterling High School where she has taught for the past 10 years. Janet grew up on a West Central Illinois farm. She attended Carrollton Schools. She is an Illinois State University graduate. She earned her undergraduate degree in Speech Communication at ISU and in December 2002 she completed her Master of Science program in Education Administration at Western Illinois University. She has taught in Havanna, Springfield, Jacksonville and Sterling. Although this is her first administrative position she has had leadership experiences while at Sterling High School. She served as assistant principal at Sterling during her internship and supervised elementary summer school. She also played a role in designing and developing curriculum for the high school English department while aligning the Illinois Learning Standards. Mrs. Ward served as a varsity volleyball coach, cheerleading coach, basketball coach and directed the speech team and group interpretations teams as well as assisted with musicals. She has also been an Illinois High School Association volleyball official. Janet lives in Port Byron with her husband Dave and three children. Andy is 20 and attends Southern Illinois University, Patrick, 17 is a senior and Rachel, 15 is a sophomore. They will continue living in Port Byron for now. Janet stated, “Morrison has an incredible reputation as a quality school. I would like to preserve that and help teachers and students continue to improve on that reputation. I have always heard positive comments about the Morrison school system. It is nice to be in a community where the school district is very important. I am looking forward to meeting more people from the community.” Mrs. Ward was offered a one-year contract, which began August 1, 2004 and will go through June 30, 2005 at a contractual salary of $67,000. by Dawn Zuidema, theCity1.com |
