VBS draws 187 children

187 children attended Bible School the week of July 26-30

God’s All Star Champions was the theme of the 2004 Vacation Bible School, which brought in a record number of children with 187 attending.

The totals included 29 preschoolers, 26 kindergarteners, 57 first and second graders, 46 third and fourth graders and 29 fifth and sixth graders. Volunteers to help with this many children totaled 85.

With the Olympic games in the near future children traveled to a different sport each night, which included softball, soccer, hockey, mountaineering and bicycling. The Bible story and crafts centered on the theme.

Snacks also went along with each classes theme with mini hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls and popcorn for softball, sugar cookies decorated like soccer balls, mini Oreos and graham crackers sticks for hockey, granola bars for mountaineering and Ritz crackers with cheese spray spokes for the bicycling.

This year’s offering went to help support Special Olympics. The goal was to raise $700. With the ending of the week Friday, $885.19 had been raised for the Olympics.

The Vacation Bible School committee would like to give special thanks to Dairy Queen for the Dilly Bars and tokens, Spangler’s Landscaping who donated rocks for the rock painting craft, Boss Office for the discount on the rings which held memory verses, Don Jevne from True Value for allowing the sign on his building, Wells Fargo for laminating the names tags free of charge, Casey’s for donating ice each night and Barb Schorpp for searching the internet for craft supplies.
