It's time for the Whiteside County Fair!

This time of the year is eternally challenging for me to determine a sense of direction. Should I be happy that the hot days of Summer are half over or depressed that the cold days of Winter are only a few months away? By now we have collectively enjoyed the end of school and the beginning of a nice Summer vacation with all of the kids activities or trips to fish, camp or just go visiting relatives. The 4th of July activities are now a memory and this late July feeling is one in limbo. But then again along comes the Whiteside County Fair and in just a few short weeks Morrison will come alive with plenty of action in the form of hobby shows, animal judging, demolition derby's, harness racing, an auto thrill show, antique tractor parade, a wrist wrestling competition and many many more events including lots of carnival rides.

This year Morrison Online is proud to be sponsoring the Tuesday Demolition Derby and we will be handing out tee shirts and a cool 2005 computer calendar for folks in the grandstand. We also will have Dawn Zuidema patrolling the fair daily with her trusty and ever present camera catching all of the activites. We will have daily updates so that if you miss one event you can go online and see what you missed! We also have a contest running off the homepage right now that you can enter to win two (2) season passes. All you have to do is give us your favorite fair memory in 50 to 200 words, submit and our panel of judges will pick the the winner. We will publish all of the entries just before the fair starts from the fair webpage. Back to all of that earlier chatter about mid summer doldrums, maybe I will go write down some memories of my own fair experiences and submit them. That will keep me busy. Enjoy the fair and create your own memories!
