Morrison Sesquicentennial July 17, 2004 Event |
This coming month of July the Morrison Sesquicentennial Committee is coming forth with what can be described as a very ambitious start to their yearlong celebrations from the July 17 date until the final celebratory July 8,9 and 10th weekend in the Summer of 2005. . The committee has been meeting and working since December of 2002 and is now ready to implement the event schedule. This next July 17 is a moment in Morrison's history that could possibly become one of those "I was there" stories we hear of from time to time.Morrison has been the beneficiary of several fine physicians over the past 50 years and two from the same family have been identified by the Sesquicentennial Committee as to have served the community with dedication since 1947.Dr Ike Vandermyde came to Morrison fulltime in 1947 and later his son Richard in 1960. Dr. Ike has passed away and Dr Richard is now retired and living in Morrison with his wife. Please read the story on our homepage or on the Sesquicentennial page for all the details but this onetime photo will be a lasting testament to not only this unselfish family of physicians but also a tribute to all of the former patients who have been helped and affected by these doctors. What a fitting way for these former patients to say "thank you" to two doctors who spent short nights with housecalls and long days at the hospital giving birth to so many and tending to the ill in nursing homes and gave so much of their own time to the community and never asked for a day off.July 17 is our time to show them we remember and we care. by Bob Vaughn, theCity1.com |
