Farm Safety Camp set for June 19

Each year hundreds of people including children are hurt or even killed in farm related accidents in the United States. Although agriculture is one of the most dangerous industries in the United States, it can also be the most awarding experience a person can have.

Children follow in the footsteps of their parents and even their grandparents. If a child sees a relative doing work that may be considered unsafe, in reality that child will mimic that person. So we must act what we preach and take appropriate measures in keeping children safe on the farm.

That’s why a farm safety camp has been scheduled for Saturday, June 19, 2004. The mission for the farm safety day camp is to educate and prevent kids from becoming another statistic in farm-related accidents. Safety and education will play an important role in reducing fatalities and injuries on the farm, which is being provided at the farm safety day camp.

The farm safety day camp will be held on June 19th at the Whiteside County Fair Grounds from 9 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. Some of the sessions for the day camp include Tractor-PTO Safety, Fire Safety, Lawn Mower Safety, Grain Flow Safety, Using 911, Gun Safety, Animal Safety, Ambulance Tour, and other exciting activities.

Pre-registration is required. There will be a $5 charge per person or family of three or more $10, which will cover lunch, t-shirt, first aid kit, and other important materials.

Sponsors for the 2004 Farm Safety Day Camp includes: Prophetstown Equipment – Case IH, Maloney Equipment – John Deere, Illinois State Police, Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department, CGH Hospital, Morrison Community Hospital, Morrison Fire Department, Whiteside County Farm Bureau, University of Illinois Extension – Whiteside County Unit and in cooperation with Illinois Farm Bureau.
