MHS graduates 2004 class

The 2004 MHS Graduating Class

The threat of storms and a damp football field forced the Morrison High School to move the 2004 Commencement into the warm muggy gym on Sunday, May 23 to the disappointment of the students.

After the senior class was seated to the traditional “Pomp and Circumstance”, Megan Goodenough, one of two senior students chosen by the faculty to speak, told the students her “Top 10” Advice Quotes. She told the students to, “ Accomplish great things, overcome adversity, wish, be happy, tell the truth, make changes, dream, be yourself, keep friendships alive, and number 1 continue their lifelong education.

Goodenough was followed by Will Freres and Tom Drosopoulos, both chosen by the students to speak. Freres told the class to “Hold on to Your Memories”. After summing up their school years, he announced, “Believe it or not I’m going to miss you…I’ve enjoyed my last 4 years…I honestly don’t want to leave and my memories definitely won’t leave me.”

Drosopoulos talked about his school highlights in “To High School and Beyond”. His favorite memory was beating Fulton at football his sophomore year. “It’s been fun to come to school and talk about the night before…but now we have to face realities and do our own laundry…but whatever you do go out and meet new people. And in the words of Alice Cooper, ‘Schools out for summer’.”

The teachers also chose the final speaker. Merrie Bunt said they were experiencing a lot of last times, “like the last day of school…the last B-day, but this will be the last time the class of 2004 will be together.” She told the class they would start doing a lot of firsts, “like going to college, starting a job, moving away from home.” After reading the poem, “Guy in the Glass” by Dale Wimbrow, she told the audience if you like what you see when you look in the mirror, you have truly achieved.

Dr. Jody Ware presented the Valedictorian and Salutatorians with scholarships from the Morrison Education Foundation. Co-Salutatorians Will Freres and Jacob Medendorp each received $300 scholarships. Merrie Bunt, with a 4.0 grade point average, also received $300 as Valedictorian.

MHS Robed Choir and MHS Band provided special music for the ceremony. “Barter” was performed by the Robed Choir and MHS Band performed “Lux Aeterna”.
