Hackbarth running for U.S. President

Dennis Hackbarth of Clinton, Iowa is running for President of the United States

If you do not want to vote President George Bush in for another four years and Senator John Kerry has not won your vote, a local candidate would like your vote. Dennis E. Hackbarth grew up in Morrison and now lives in Clinton, Iowa. He presently works at Drives in Fulton but was a truck driver for 22 years.

Driving over the road and talking to other drivers is where he first came up with the idea to run for president. Truckers were positive to his message that the country needs a third party. They agreed the country needed a change. He ran as a write-in candidate in 2000 but decided to quit driving truck to concentrate on his candidacy in 2004.

His slogan is “A common man for the common people”. He feels Bush and Kerry are not on the same level as the average American. “I’m a working person, like most Americans,” Hackbarth explains.

On the issues, he thinks we should get out of Iraq, “Our intentions were to remove Saddam, and we did that. We’re diverting our attention away from Bin Laden and we need to finish what we started.”

In regards to the economy he says, “We need to bring jobs and businesses back to the United States. It will make the U.S. more prosperous. There are too many foreign made items, it needs to be made in the United States.”

If he were elected, the first thing he would do is to be like Robin Hood. “I would give back to the people what has been taken, such as taxes. We helped other countries rebuild and they need to pay us back and help America. The next thing would be to lower fuel prices by limiting import of oil and open capped oil fields to use our own resources.”

When it comes to education he would have the kids learn with their minds not computers, and to get the teachers to care about the kids not their pay.

Hackbarth feels he has nothing to lose and more to gain. “If I can stand up to Bush, Kerry, and Nader, I can make a difference. I’m running for the American people. If I win I’ll make history. I just want the American people to go out and vote, whether they are for the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, or for me.”

To run for President of the United States, Hackbarth needs 2600 signatures in all 50 states by June 21, 2004. To accomplish this he is looking for interested individuals to be on his committee and to help with fundraising. If he doesn’t make the deadline he will run as a write-in candidate again.

Hackbarth has a high school education and has been a member of the Navy and Army. He has been married and divorced twice and has two sons ages 5 and 7. He plans to run his campaign without putting down Bush or Kerry but by talking to the American people from his heart. He is running as an Independent.

Why is Dennis Hackbarth running for President of the United States? “Because I can,” is his reply.
