Monday's Manhunt successfully concludes

On April 26, 2004, at approximately 1:15 pm, Morrison Police were called to investigate a theft of cash from the dollar exchange at Super Wash on West Lincolnway. During the investigation, officers located the suspect, identified as Scott A. Gregory, 36, Clinton, Iowa, in a residence at 703 West Wall Street.

As officers arrived at the residence, a computer check of Gregory revealed that a warrant was issued for his arrest in Clinton, Iowa, for failure to appear on previous traffic charges, including driving while suspended – fourth offense. While officers were awaiting additional assistance to search the residence, Gregory left the residence through a window and fled on foot. A search of the area by Morrison Police, Whiteside County Sheriff’s Officers, and Illinois State Police Troopers failed to locate Gregory. During this time, officers provided Gregory’s description to area residents.

At approximately 5:15 pm, Morrison Police received several citizen reports of Gregory walking through yards in the vicinity of Winfield Street from Heaton Street to Portland Avenue. Officers from the Morrison Police Department, Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, and Illinois State Police combed the area. At approximately 6:10 pm, Gregory was located by the Morrison Police Chief hiding behind an air conditioning unit at Climco Coils in the Morrison Industrial Park. Gregory was taken into custody without incident. After being apprehended, Gregory advised officers that he had bee hiding under a porch most of the afternoon following his initial flight from the West Wall Street residence.

Gregory was subsequently transported to the Whiteside county Law Enforcement Center where he was held pending extradition to Clinton County, Iowa. Gregory was also charged with resisting a police officer, stemming from his flight from the West Wall street residence. Morrison Police are also continuing their investigation into the theft of cash from Super Wash. Gregory is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Morrison Police Department would like to thank those citizens who assisted the Police Department in the apprehension of Gregory by reporting his location.
