Annual Easter Egg Hunt Brings Fun for All

Imagine hundreds kids from all age levels, lined up at Kiwanis Park behind a strip of caution tape, waiting for the Easter Bunny to start the hunt. This was the case on Saturday, April 11, as the local Kiwanis chapter hosted their annual Easter Egg Hunt. 1,575 eggs were stuffed full of candy and prizes by Kiwanis and MHS Key Club Members to be thrown out and found by children.

The festivities began just before 10:00 that morning, as kids and their parents eagerly arrived to find some eggs and meet the Easter Bunny. At 10:00, the Easter bunny arrived in a big red fire truck, and was escorted to the center of the park, where it started the egg hunt for the youngest kids first. After all the kids in that group had found all the eggs and left the field, Key Club members immediately began throwing out hundreds of eggs for the next group of kids. After the intermediate aged kids had taken all of the eggs, the older kids rushed out, picking up as many eggs as possible before others could. After all 1,575 eggs had been collected and emptied, the Easter Bunny stayed around to meet any astonished and scared children for Easter photos.

The event was a success for all, and has been a tradition for many families for years. The event was first started by the Jaycees, but Kiwanis took over the festivities years ago. In 1998, Key Club began to help Kiwanis, and today the event is very successful, with many local restaurants pitching in items to help.
