US 30 Corridor Public Meeting

US Route 30 Corridor Alternatives

Congressman Don Manzullo and Rep. Lane Evans secured $1.5 million to do a U.S. 30 Corridor Study. “The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of a transportation system improvement that will enhance east-west mobility while accommodating projected year 2023 travel demand within northwestern Illinois and the project area,” according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Illinois Department of Transportation has announced a Public Informational Open House for the Corridor Study of Proposed U.S. Route 30 from Illinois Route 136 to Interstate 88. The meeting on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, will be held at the United Methodist Church, 200 West Lincolnway from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

The public can view displays, a Power Point presentation, ask questions, and discuss Corridor alternatives. Four alternative routes will be considered in the first phase of design. Two alternatives go north of Morrison and two are to the south. One to the north would pass 4.2 miles from Morrison while the other only 1.2 miles north. One of the southern alternatives is only 1.4 miles south of Morrison while the other is 2.6 miles to the south.

The information gathered from this first public meeting will be evaluated and the results will be presented at a second public meeting in the late fall of 2004. After the second public meeting the Corridor report will be finalized and available to the public. If funding is available Phase I will begin: Preliminary Design/Environmental Evaluation.
