Illinois Legislature wants to repeal trucking legislation

Senate Republicans are working to expedite legislation that will help the trucking industry and the jobs it supports in Illinois.

Last month, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed House Bill 412 to repeal the 36 percent increase in truck registration fees passed last year. Those fees were strongly opposed by Senate Republicans. House Bill 412 is currently sitting in the Democrat-controlled Senate Rules Committee.

Early in March, Senate Republicans sent letters to Senate President Emil Jones and the Democrat members of the Rules Committee asking them to allow a public hearing of House Bill 412. Letters are also being sent to more than 10,400 trucking companies across the state encouraging them to contact Senate President Jones about fast-tracking the fee repeal legislation.

The Senate already passed similar legislation, House Bill 852, on Nov. 20, 2003, but it stalled in the House of Representatives.
