Damhoff receives Eagle Scout Badge

Arlyn Hayen, Ryan Damhoff, and Troop Leader Steve Gatz

Ryan Damhoff, a senior at Morrison High School, received the highest honor a Boy Scout can achieve. On Saturday, March 27, Scout Leader, Steve Gatz, presented Damhoff his Eagle Scout Badge.

Damhoff, a member of Scout Troop 96, was captain of his Quiz Bowl team, a member of National Honor Society, active in band, and a member the Madrigals this year but still found time to do his service project to become an Eagle Scout.

To attain the honor a Scout must be an active member of Scouts in a position of responsibility, earn certain Merit Badges, and do a service project before their 18th birthday.

For his service project, Damhoff asked the Morrison Historical Society how he could help. They gave him a list of projects. He chose to build 10 display stands for information and 10 stands to keep certain areas and artifacts off-limit to patrons in Morrison Heritage Museum.

“Ryan has been a blessing for us,” Historical Society President Jack Ottosen commented. “We were impressed with the quality of his work. They look very nice; in fact, Clinton Historical Society inquired where we had gotten the display stands and wondered if he might make them some. It (Eagle Scout) was a well deserved honor.”

His future plans are to move into a leadership role within the troop and to help them until he leaves for college this fall. He is the son of Mr. And Mrs. Arnold.
