Three of the Morrison Seahorse Swim Clubs (MSSC) members practice hard, swim hard, and they are about to reach the payoff. Jamie Grau, Mitch Story, and Keisha Hodge will be competing in the Illinois Age Group Swimming Championships at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The yearly competition will be held March 19-21. Coach Pat Campbell explained, “This is the payoff for their hard work. These kids were fun to coach.” Grau will compete in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. This is her third time with Junior Olympic (JO) times. “I’m excited and I put in a lot of work to get this far.” This is the second time at the Junior Olympics for Hodge. She will be competing in the 50 free, 50 breaststroke, 100 IM, and 100 butterfly. She said, “It was a lot of work but worth the effort” “It’s the icing on the cake,” according to Story who is competing in the 100 and 200 butterfly, 200 IM, and 200 breaststroke. This ends the MSSC and Illinois Swimming season. All three swimmers also started swimming in the Junior High Team with practices starting this week. MSSC is holding two fundraisers in the next couple months; a pancake breakfast March 27 and their soil sale April 2-3. by Barb Benson, theCity1.com |
