Todd Weimer made US Deaf Men's Volleyball Team

With just over 300 days to go until the 2005 Deaflympic Games, the coaches have chosen local man, Todd Weimer, to play on the US Deaf Men’s Volleyball Team. Tryouts were last weekend and Sunday his parents, Ron and Genny Weimer, received an email from Todd. It said he made the team with the most points given in kills, digs, passes, and serves.

Final tryouts were in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the USA Olympic Training Center. Head coach Gregory Remaklus and assistant coach Rob Lee evaluated the players for the national team. The 18 member Men’s Team will compete at the 2005 Summer Deaflympics in Melbourne, Australia, in January 2005. To be a member of the team players must have a hearing loss of at least 55 decibels in the better ear.

After being chosen for the team Todd flew back to Chicago Sunday night. He is preparing to graduate from NIU in Dekalb, Illinois. Family and friends have had ongoing fundraisers for Todd but will start accelerating the process. Estimated needs are $5000-7000 for expenses. Anyone interested in sponsoring Todd should call the Weimers at 772-4495 or email Todd at weimer32@yahoo.com.
