| There were no cheerleaders or pom pon girls last Saturday but Morrison pulled out a conference win with a perfect 7-0 for the day and an overall record of 13-1 for the season. The 5-person team beat Riverdale by only five points for the championship (the smallest amount of points possible). It’s the first time Morrison has won the regional crown since 1998.
Jason Endress, former Morrison student and current science teacher at Clinton High School, is the coach of the team. The sixteen members of quiz bowl are broken down into 7 freshman, 4 sophomores, 2 juniors, and 3 seniors. They have both varsity and junior varsity teams.
Freshman Eliot Driver was selected 1st team All-Conference by correctly answering 30 toss-up questions during the season. Ryan Damhoff, captain of the team, said his favorite question is always the one you can answer.
Scholastic Bowl is made up of two rounds with 10 questions in each round and a break between the rounds. Typically the matches last 45 minutes.
This weekend they travel to Fulton for the Masonic Bowl. The team is looking forward to this meet because they can win money. If Morrison wins they can move on to Masonic State where more money is at stake.
The team will represent Morrison High School at the IHSA Regional on March 8 with Morrison hosting 8-10 teams at MHS.
