Pom Pon girls heading to Super Sectionals

Pom Pon girls performing at half-time.

Seniors: Amy Drehmer, Britta Bartel, and Megan Goodenough will perform with All-Stars at the 25th Anniversary of IDTA.

2001, 2002, and 2003 State Champion Morrison Pom Pons girls won 1st place in the Kick division of IDTA/IHSA Regional competitions at Bureau Valley High School on February 7, 2004. Not only did they win against their competition, they earned enough points to move on to North Super Sectionals at Fremd High School in Palatine on March 6. Not all first place teams also qualified for Super Sectionals on points. Currently the Lisle Lionettes are the only other team to qualify for A Division Kick other than Morrison.

The girls are dancing and kicking to “This will be an Everlasting Love” by Natalie Cole. Sponsor LuAnn Navarra choreographed the routine with her daughter Emily. The pons can compete in eight possible areas for including Pom, Dance, Hip Hop, Lyrical, and Kick. For a Kick performance they have to include at least 50 kicks. Dance is also to be present throughout the routine. It must be a minimum of two minutes and a maximum of three.

They will also be competing in another area Regional competition at Richwoods High School in Peoria on February 28. The extra competition exposes them to different judges and gives them more experience but is not necessary to advance. February 28th will be the last day for Regionals.

If the group of girls win at Super Sectionals in Palentine they move on to State Competition at U of I Assembly Hall, Champaign, on March 27. For the four seniors, they are hoping for a fourth time at State. Three seniors: Britta Bartels, Amy Drehmer, and Megan Goodenough were already chosen to dance with the All-Stars at State. They submitted a video in June, and then in November auditioned in Chicago to perform in the 25th Anniversary All-Star performance at Champaign.
