Local 150 Striking Waste Management

Local 150 Striking at Whiteside County's Waste Management Facility

Thursday picket signs were set up on both sides of Waste Management’s Whiteside County facility. Management said they were not sure why they were being picketed but thought it had to do with “problems at another facility”.

According to an article in the NWI Times.com, in an article written by Andrea Holecek, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 and IUOE and International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 142 are striking Waste Management facilities because of “unfair labor practices”. February 9th the unions began striking against their Gary transfer station and two of its Northern Indiana landfills.

“The unfair labor practice charge stems from a joint petition filed by the two unions to organize about 30 employees at Waste Management's Kingsbury Transfer Station in LaPorte County (Indiana).”

Currently no employee of the Whiteside County facility is striking and operations are continuing as usual.
