Clinton Symphany Orchestra performs in Morrison Feb. 14

Music for Valentine's Day will be featured by the Clinton Symphony Orchestra Saturday, February 14. The 8:00 pm concert is at the Morrison High School auditorium.

Robert Whipple, who will conduct the orchestra, has chosen music with love connections. The love story of composers Robert and Clara Schumann will be remembered with his Symphony No. 3, written during their happy days along the Rhine River in Germany, and Tchaikovsky's fantasy overture based on Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" will be performed.

Love for humanity will be expressed with John Williams' music for the film "Schindler's List" featuring the orchestra's concertmaster, Jerry Henry, and a Toccata by Frescobaldi performed on the first concert 50 years ago will honor the Symphony's founders and the orchestra's 50th anniversary season.

The concert will also feature flutist Jamie Skinner, a senior at Milledgeville High School, who was selected last month at the orchestra's annual Young Artist Auditions. She will perform a "Concertino" by Cecile Chaminade for flute and orchestra.

Romantic 19th century Vienna will be the subject of the concert finale, as the orchestra plays the "Blue Danube Waltz" by Johann Strauss, Jr.

In honor of the student soloist, all students will be admitted free of charge to this performance. Adult tickets are available in Clinton at England Music Center, in Morrison at Fitzgerald's Pharmacy and Community State Bank, and in Sterling at Heritage Music Center. Tickets will also be available at the door of the concert.
