Guidance News for 8th Graders to H.S. Seniors

Students may pick up the new January 2004 Fastweb bulletins available at my cafeteria table. Information is provided regarding the FAFSA (free application for federal student aid) and FAFSA on the Web for college-bound seniors. Another bulletin talks about college prep for freshman and sophomore high school students.

College-bound students and their parents may get more help with completing the FAFSA at our third and final financial aid night. This presentation will provide hands on assistance with completing the FAFSA in the computer lab at Erie High School. The date is Thursday February 5th and the time is 7:00 PM.

Eighth grade parents are invited to attend one of two presentations that will explain registration for the 2004-2005 school year. Please bring your child's course description book and registration form to the high school auditorium on Monday February 2nd or Thursday February 5th at 6:30.

Students are encouraged to discuss course selections for next year with parents, teachers, and college advisors. College advisors suggest that students get a minimum of 4 years each of English, math, social studies, and science. For the more selective universities, four years of one foreign language may be required.

Sauk Valley Community College representatives will be at Morrison High School Thursday February 5th during homeroom to talk to prospective students as well as those who have been accepted. Students will get information about programs available, scholarships, placement testing, and registration for courses. Students should sign up with me for this visit.

Juniors may call college admissions offices to make arrangements for college visits for the upcoming holidays: Thursday, February 12th and Monday, March 1st.
