Strategic Planning Committee Finalized Plan on a Page

At Tuesday night’s Strategic Planning Committee Meeting for the Morrison School District, the committee finalized the Plan on a Page for 2004-05. The committee changed some of the district measures and the action plans from last year’s plan but other parts of it have stayed the same. For it to become effective the Morrison School Board needs to adopt the plan.

The three major issues from last years Plan on the Page has not changed. Quality of Education, Fiscal Management, and Communication are still the major issues facing the School, although Community Involvement was added to Communication.

The issue of communication and community involvement focused on increasing volunteers in the school. But the Web site and continued communication between the schools, parents and the community continues to be part of the plan. A public relations committee was added to the plan to increase public support for the school. A “Volunteer Spotlight” program will be established and recognition of teachers who accept and encourage volunteers.

Fiscally the plan would like to see more grants, the establishment of an Endowment Fund, and to move up one or more levels on the State of Illinois Financial Profile. Balancing the budget and increasing fund balances continue to be part of the District Measure.

But Quality of Education is the number one priority with the plan. It promotes an increase in opportunities for high school students and an increase in technology by adding technology courses to the High School and also by updating older computers in the elementary schools. A staff development plan will also be prepared.

The Strategic Planning Committee is made up of board members, school staff, parents, community members, and students. They met several times this school year at Morrison Junior High to develop the Plan on a Page.
