Fillies take fourth at conference |
| By: Lindsey Smith It was a close one, but Morrison pulled out in front of Byron by three points at the conference meet, in Byron, in the first week of November. The Fillies finished fourth with 161 points, ahead of Byron, Newman, and Rockford Christian. Sterling won the meet in both Varsity and Junior Varsity. The meet started with the 200-medley relay. Megan Tenboer stayed up with the field of backstrokers. Her split was a 32.44. Megan handed to Ann, who swam the breastroke in a 37.84. Ann then touched for Smiley, who swam the second fastest butterfly 50 in the pool. Smiley touched in at a 28.79, and Rachel took off. Rachel finished her 50 freestyle with a time of 24.60, which is under the state cut. The Fillies finished third in the event, behind Sterling and Ottawa. Sterling's time was a 1:54.88, which broke the meet record held by Morrison's Carlie Schoaf, Megan and Rachel Fedyk, and Smiley Smith. The Fillies time was a 2:03.67. In the JV 200 freestyle, Katie Kuehl placed 5th. Her time was a 2:33.67, faster than some of the Varsity swimmers. Katie was behind Tiffany Myers of Byron by two seconds. The Fillies surrounded Lynn Siemert of Sterling in the 50 freestyle with Rachel and Smiley on both sides of her. Rachel finished second with a time of 24.92. Smiley finished third with a time of 25.33, just above the state cut by 0.24 seconds. Lynn swam a 24.44, which set a new pool and meet record. In the JV 50 free, Michelle placed fourth and Ann followed in seventh. Michelle swam a personal best time of 29.64. Ann's time was 30.90, just behind Brianna Carbaugh of Sterling by 0.16 seconds. With a time of 1:04.05, Smiley finished second, behind Sterling's Christina Yemm of Sterling. Smiley just beat out Stephanie Dodd of IMSA. Lindsey took sixth place with a time of 1:11.02. She finished as the highest ranked freshman. Rachel again went against Lynn Siemert in the 100-yard freestyle. Rachel settled for second with a time of 55.39. Lynn swam a 53.94, which was another pool and meet record. Michelle placed third in the JV 100 yard free. Her time was a 1:05.98, just behind Abby Munson of Sterling by less than a second. Michelle's time was also the fastest by a freshman in the event. Megan Tenboer and Lindsey Smith swam together for the Fillies in the 500-yard freestyle. Lindsey finished fifth with a time of 6:04.03. She was only behind Rachel Breck of Byron by less than a second. Megan finished eighth, behind Allison Hamilton of Sterling by less than two seconds. Megan's time was a 6:25.95. Katie Kuehl swam a personal best time of 6:25.92 in the JV 500 free. Katie placed third in the event. She was behind Meghan Murphy of IMSA by ten seconds, and ahead of Tiffany Myers of Byron by eleven seconds. In the 200 free relay, Smiley, Lindsey, Megan, and Rachel placed second behind Ottawa by less than two seconds. Smiley swam the first leg in a 25.87. Lindsey dove off of Smiley into a time of 28.36. Lindsey handed to Megan who swam a 28.05. Rachel finished the relay with a 24.28. Their time was a 1:46.56, a season best. Megan placed third in the 100-yard backstroke. She beat out Emily Fassler of Sterling by less than a second. Megan's time was a 1:10.54. Ann placed ninth in the 100-yard breastroke. Her time was a 1:25.51. Ann was just behind Jenna Biewer of Ottawa by less than a second. In the final event of the night, the 400 free relay, the Fillies placed fifth. Michelle started the relay off with a 1:07.02. Michelle handed to Ann who swam a 1:16.84. Ann touched for Katie, and Katie swam a 1:08.53. Katie then passed to the anchor, Lindsey. Lindsey finished with a 1:05.58. The relay?s time was a 4:37.97, ahead of Newman's relay by less than a second. Sectionals are the weekend of the 15th and we wish the Filly swimmers best of luck as they race for a chance to compete in the state meet held in Chicago. by lsmith |
