Jed Renkes running the ball

Morrison Loses in Final Game

With the Frosh/Soph game being cancelled due to inclement weather, the Varsity game on October 24th was started at 7:45, with the Senior Night presentation. Morrison and Peru-St. Bede had a tough night, with both teams not being able to produce on the offensive side of the ball.

Early in the first quarter, heavy rain was still coming down, which led to both teams having multiple fumbles and neither side being able to score. In the first play of the second quarter, however, Morrison had a fumble recovery, which was taken downfield, but was soon punted away. Peru-St Bede took the bad field position and turned it into 6 points with five minutes left in the half, but Morrison was able to block the extra point kick. When Morrison got the ball back, they immediately stepped into action again with a 40-yard pass from Nathan Vock to Luck Goessman. Later in the drive, Luke ran the ball in another 15 yards for the touchdown, followed by a two-point-conversion by Goessman again.

In the second half, Peru-St Bede had a great pass reception, and a touchdown on the next play. Morrison once again blocked the two-point conversion, but on the next possession, the Mustangs went three-and-out again. Following the punt, Morrison’s Marcus Hill recovered a fumble that the Defensive line knocked out of the Peru quarterback’s hands. On the next play, Goessman fumbled, and Peru’s Chris Kelly was able to get on it first. In the fourth quarter, Morrison was deep in their own territory when Casey Tiesman threw an interception. On the next play Casey Tiesman, now on defense, intercepted a Peru-St. Bede pass and returned it 80 yards to put the Mustangs deep in the red zone. Sloppy playing led to Morrison not being able to score on that drive, leaving them down by four. Peru-St. Bede scored again with only a few minutes to go, and completed the extra-point-kick putting the score at 19-8. Morrison had one major chance to even up the game with more than four minutes to go, but didn’t, giving the ball back to Peru, who made a few first downs and took a knee to end the game with a final score of 19-8.
