The Price of Sports |
| Recently, the school board made the decision to keep sports in Morrison Unit 6, but at a large cost of up to 475 dollars. The way that it works is that the activity fee will be 275 dollars for the first sport, 150 dollars for the second, and 50 dollars for the 3rd sport. The prices were arranged this way to give a slight break to people who were 3-sport athletes.
Though this seems expensive, many thought that it was a better alternative than just eliminating the sports altogether and having nothing at all. The Board looked at the overall price per person per sport, which in many cases was 500-600 dollars and more, so paying a part of that instead of the old one time activity fee, would greatly help to offset the cost. In addition, ticket prices may go up and some extra programs, such as training camps will be cut or cost more. Sports are not the only extra-curricular activity that is having the prices raised. Band and Choir, both daily classes, will cost for the 1st and for the second. Also, if one wants to do a fall or spring musical/play, then they will each cost apiece. Altogether, if you are planning in participating in sports, then you may want to seriously take into consideration the cost of the event. by larryg |
