Morrison Has Mixed Result in Erie-Prophetstown Rivalry

On Friday, October 10, 2003, while many were watching the Cubs win, Morrison traveled to Prophetstown to battle it out with long time rival Erie-Prophetstown. In the Junior Varsity game, Morrison came out strong and stayed as a dominant force throughout, but when the varsity game came around, Morrison couldn’t keep up with the Panthers’ aggressive offense.

The J.V game started off slowly, but finally started rolling and didn’t stop. The first score of the night was a short pass caught by Sammy Biggs, who ran about 30 yards for the Touchdown. Soon after, Brent Beveroth took the ball in from 30 yards out for another touchdown. Erie/P-Town put 6 points on the board shortly after the Beveroth run, but Morrison was able to hold off the extra point. Just before the half, Nick Vandermyde ran in a short run to score again, and Sammy Biggs followed him in for a second time the next drive, leaving the score at 27-6 at the half. In the second half, with both teams fighting hard, the only score was by Brent Beveroth again to put the final score at 33-6.

When the Varsity game started, both teams knew that they would be in for a fight, and both played like it too. Marcus Hill started off the scoring with a 40-yard touchdown run, and Casey Tiesman put in the extra point. E/P’s Brad Misfeldt answered the touchdown with one of his own on the next drive, but Morrison was able to stop the extra point. On the following kick return, Morrison fumbled and gave the Panthers the ball in excellent position. It only took one play for Panthers Brad Misfeldt to run in the 15 yards for the TD again, and this time, the 2-point-conversion was good, leaving the score at 14-7, Panthers. Soon after, Morrison had a great drive including a 30-yard pass from Nathan Vock to Casey Tiesman, a 25-yard run by Marcus Hill, and the 5-yard rush into the end-zone by Kendal Mcdearmon. On the next Panther drive, Casey Tiesman intercepted a pass and ran it for 25 yards to the 1-yard-line, where Marcus Hill ran it the rest of the way, to put Morrison up, 19-14. Before half-time came around, E/P was able to get a huge run by Brad Misfeldt to score, putting the score at 22-19. Erie recovered the onside kick with seconds to go left in the half, but a huge sack by Zach Stout ended the half.

In the second half, the panther offense started to dominate the game. Early in the 3rd quarter, Tim McKay scored another E/P touchdown, followed by a mishandled onside kick by Morrison, but E/P wouldn’t be able to produce. Morrison got the ball back, but a fumble gave it right back to the Panthers, where Colin Mix had a huge run, and Irv Foltz put in another touchdown for the Panthers, leaving the score at 36-19. Following the big E/P drive, Morrison fumbled, and Irv Foltz again put in a touchdown, leaving the score at 42-19. After so much Panther dominance on the ball, Morrison’s Casey Tiesman was able to pick up a 35-yard run followed by the extra point kick, putting the score at 42-27. Morrison tried the onside kick and won, but soon after they fumbled again, giving Erie/P-Town the ball again, where Ricky Brown put in another Panther TD followed by the extra point. The score stayed at 49-27, Erie-Prophetstown.
