Quarterback Casey Tiesman about to snap the ball

Morrison Football Defeated at Amboy

Morrison's football teams had a chance to go and play at Amboy's Homecoming game, which was to be a night filled with cold, drenching rain and losses for Morrison.

The Fresh/Soph game began in pouring rain, but ended under a rainbow and clearing skies. With it being so wet, the passing game for both teams was virtually nonexistant, but Amboy managed to have a successful rushing game and an overwhelming defense. The Fresh/Soph game ended with Morrison scoring only once, with a final score of 29-6.

The Varsity game began with both teams hoping for a big win, and only Amboy was able to produce. Early in the first quarter, the Mustangs had a bad punt return, and the Amboy defense backed them into their own goal, giving the Clippers two points for the safety and the early lead. On the following kick return, Morrison was able to return the ball all the way up to the Amboy 40 yard line, which put them in excellent field position, but the Mustangs couldn't score on the drive. Later in the first quarter, Morrison recovered a fumble at their own 39 yard line, but still couldn't turn it into points on the board.

Amboy was able to come up with a score early in the second quarter, but Morrison blocked the extra point attempt kick. With the Mustangs down 8-0, they knew that they would have to come up with a big drive, and it was getting late in the second quarter. With a few mintes to go before the half, Morrison's Kendal Mcdearmon came up with a 30 yard run, and the following play, quarterback Casey Tiesman threw to Will Freres for a 25 yard catch. On the catch, Will Freres was injured severely by landing on his knee wrong. He was taken to the hospital, where it was decided that he had torn the main tendon in his knee, and it would require surgery. After play resumed, receiver Matt Vandermyde caught a Tiesman pass in the end-zone for the touchdown, but without a kicker, they attempted the 2 point conversion, but to no avail. Soon after, Amboy scored again, which made the score 15-6 going into the half.

Having no kicker for the entire half would prove to severely hinder the Mustangs, making them go for it on fourth down a lot, which often caused problems. In the third quarter, Casey Tiesman intercepted a pass, which gave Morrison the ball on the Morrison 45 yard line. A fumble on fourth down gave Amboy the ball again, but Morrison was able to cause a fumble and Marcus Hill was able to recover it to keep the Clippers from scoring in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, following Hill's fumble recovery, Morrison was able to charge down the field all the way to the Amboy 15 yard line, where they gave the ball up on a fourth and one play. Shortly after, Amboy made a huge touchdown pass, followed by a successful point-after attempt to end the game with a score of 22-6.

Box Scores for this game will be posted shortly.
