Swimmers are Outstanding at Rock Island Relay Invitational |
| The Morrison Fillies were the smallest school and the smallest team at the Rock Island High School Relay Invitational on Saturday, September 13. But with only 7 swimmers placed 9th out of a field of 12 teams and won two of the relay events.
The same 2 Fillies teamed up to win the 200-yard/2-person relay with Smith again leading off with a 100 free split of 55.63 seconds and Fedyk anchoring with a split of 54.63 seconds for a winning time of 1:50.25. Fedyk and Smith teamed up with Lindsey Smith and Megan Tenboer to place 3rd in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a season’s best time of 1:47.43 for those 4 girls. Those same 4 swimmers placed 6th in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:02.88. Megan Tenboer and Lindsey Smith teamed up on the 400-yard/two-person medley relay picking up 6th in a time of 5:11.60 with splits of 2:37.80 for Smith and 2:33.68 for Tenboer. Ann Schaefer, Michelle Bos, Lindsey Smith and Katie Kuehl placed 10th in the 500-yard crescendo relay with splits of 30.92 by Schaefer for 50 free, 1:09.32 by Bos for 100 free, 1:42.31 by L. Smith for 150 free and 2:32.10 by Kuehl for 200 free. Tenboer and Bos also placed 10th in the 200 backstroke 2-person relay in 2:30.11 with splits of 1:19.41 by Bos for her 100 backstroke and 1:10.70 by Tenboer for her 100 back. Coach Steve Wilkins commented after the meet, “The girls swam just great today and had great fun doing it. Everybody on the team cut times, some to the point of knocking on State Qualifying times. This team should look forward to a great season, I sure am.” There next meet will be Tuesday, September 16, in Sterling.
