Extracurricular Fund Started |
| As part of the $50,000 donation by the Morrison Athletic Boosters, they have opened an account at Community State Bank, 220 E. Main St., Morrison. Donations can be made anonymously but a thank you letter will be sent along with a note designating the amount of the donation for tax purposes for those who choose.
The “Extracurricular Activity Fund” is in addition to other fundraisers the Boosters are currently running. The “Yards for Goals” fundraiser has gone over very well and has raised around $4000 so far. A few spots are still available so when it’s full, the tally will be $5000. They are recognizing businesses and individuals that bought a yard line at half time of the sophomore game this Friday, September 5. The Meet the Players night brought in a surprising $1000 by adding sandwiches and drinks. Morrison Boosters will also be represented at Paint the Town selling Booster clothing. More importantly they started a joint effort with Dairy Queen to sell Blizzards downtown during the event. DQ will quick freeze several flavors of $2 Blizzards at their store and provide a freezer downtown for the Boosters. They have other fundraisers planned including a November 15 Pancake Breakfast. The members of the Boosters are very serious about raising the $50,000 and need the support of families, students, businesses, and coaches. The money goes to all extracurricular activities, not just athletics. Anyone who has a child in school or knows a child in school will be affected by the fundraisers. If the money is not raised, there will be an end to all extracurricular activities next year. The Boosters are not a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization. But according to the school district’s attorney, Lon Richey, the Boosters intent is for public education and by definition, charitable. The Boosters or School District can not instruct donors the Boosters are tax deductible. Contributors must be advised by their tax preparers. by benson |
