| Coach Jerry Navarra started teaching at Morrison High School immediately after earning his Bachelor's degree from Illinois State in 1974 and started coaching Frosh-Soph basketball for Morrison the same year. Before college, he lived in LeRoy, Illinois and graduated from LeRoy High School.
Mr. Navarra's most memorable game was in 1990, when the Mustangs came from 14 points behind to win the first Sectional game at Port Byron Against Lena-Winslow. The star player, Brett Goff, scored the winning 3 point shot and is now coach at Sycamore High School. Mr. Navarra started coaching varsity in 1985 and his career has many mentionable highlights, such as two undefeated conference seasons in in 1988-89 and 1993-94. He led his teams to seven TRAC 8 championships, nine Regional championships and has had six 20+ win seasons. He received his 1000th win on January 13, 1990 against Savana and 5 years later, he earned his 1100th win versus Mt. Carroll. Two years ago on January 16, 2001, Mr. Navarra earned his 1200th win against Prophetstown. This was Mr. Navarra's 17th year of varsity basketball coaching, and in the past 16 years has a record of 265-171, 60.7% wins. He will continue to coach Football in the fall but we will all miss him on the Basketball Court. by larryg |
