Morrison Sophomore Fillies take second, Freshman first |
| The girls traveled to Edgington for the annual Rockridge basketball tournament. The Sophomore girls won against Monmouth, and Riverdale, but lost to Rockridge which gave them the second place trophy. The Freshman girls defeated Rockridge, Monmouth and Orion for first place.
The Sophomore girls began the day with Monmouth. Michaele Vock started by making her first three from the field to help the Fillies take a three point first quarter lead. The second was an even match with both teams shooting forty percent from the field. The second half was all Morrison with Aimee Kyarsgaard putting in four of four from the field and Jodi Medendorp getting three of six. The girls went on to win with the final score of Monmouth 25, Morrison 36. The second game brought the host team of Rockridge. Morrison started the first quarter by making five of eight. Erica Sanchez, Jodi Medendorp, Aimee Kyarsgaard all had one from the field and Abbey Vock had two. Rockridge was four for five with two of them three’s. Rockridge took the two point lead at the quarter. The second looked like the Fillies were a little tired and started to run out of gas after playing their second game in a row. Halftime Rockridge 23, Morrison 15. In the third Morrison looked better and shot four for seven. The fourth was all Rockridge when they could not miss, they made eight in a row and the Fillies could not buy one. They did not make any from the field in the fourth; the only point came from a free throw from Sanchez. Final score Rockridge 48, Morrison 24. The last game was against Riverdale. The first quarter Morrison’s Aimee Kyarsgaard went two for two from the field to help the Fillies take a seven point lead. Abbey Vock scored all five of the second quarter points to give the Fillies an eleven point lead into the half. The second half was controlled by Morrison’s Abbey Vock and Michaele Vock. Abbey Vock made three of four three from beyond the stripe and one of three from the field. Not to be outdone Michaele Vock made five of six and one three. Emily Brinks was the only other Filly to score in the fourth. Final Morrison 47, Riverdale 19. Abbey Vock led in scores with thirty three, ten rebounds, six assists, and one for seven from the line. Michaele Vock had thirty one, eighteen rebounds, six assists and one for two from the line. Jodi Medendorp had eighteen, ten rebounds, and two for two from the line. Aimee Kyarsgaard had fourteen, sixteen rebounds, and none for four from the line. Erica Sanchez had six, six rebounds, one assist, and four of eight. Emily Brinks had two, eight rebounds and one assist. Laura Stralow had four rebounds and Jessica Deets had two rebounds. The Freshman began their day against Monmouth. Brandy Stuart scored the first basket and Katie Tenboer put in a three pointer and one from the field to start the Fillies. Heather Andersen added four and Kelly Tenboer had two to give the girls an eleven point led at the quarter. Both teams scored six in the second quarter. Halftime score Morrison 21, Monmouth 8. The second half was all Morrison with Monmouth only scoring seven more for the game. Heather Andersen finished the game with thirteen to give the Fillies a final score of thirty-seven, Monmouth fifteen. . The second game was against the host, Rockridge. Katie Tenboer went three for five and two for four from the line in the first quarter. Heather Andersen and Brandy Stuart both had two to give the Fillies a ten point led at the buzzer. The second quarter Rockridge was able to score only five while Morrison added eight. Halftime Morrison 20, Rockridge 7. In the third Morrison held Rockridge to two points and put in twelve of their own. The fourth Morrison went cold only scoring two, but that was all the needed for the win. Final Morrison 34, Rockridge 18. The last game of the day proved to be one of the closest and interesting of them all. The first quarter both teams matched up well. Morrison had seven, Orion five. The second quarter Orion outscored the girls eight to seven. Halftime Morrison 14, Orion 13. In the third Morrison scored an amazing twenty four points to Orion’s fifteen. The girls made it interesting in the fourth. Orion started shooting well and the Fillies went cold. Orion scored fifteen to the Fillies’ six. Orion kept the Fillies in the game by putting them at the line thirty-seven times, four of them on a double technical that sent the Orion coach home early. The girls made twenty-one of them on their way to the win and the championship. Katie Tenboer had forty-six points, thirteen rebounds, two assists, and was thirteen for seventeen from the line. Heather Andersen had twenty eight points, eleven rebounds, four assists, and was eight of twenty-one. Brandy Stuart had seventeen points, eighteen rebounds, and was a perfect five of five. Kelly Tenboer had seventeen points, twenty-four rebounds, six assists, and was two for six. Lindsey Smith had six points, three rebounds, one assist, and two for two. Liz Urban had four rebounds and one of four from the line. Tristan Vanderleest had one rebound. by medendorp |
