City Council Approves New Logo & Slogan for 150th Birthday

New Banner and Slogan for Sesquicentennial Celebration.

Some of you may have noticed something new in this years’ Christmas Parade. Stephanie Vavra and Jennifer Parker were carrying the new banner for the Morrison Sesquicentennial.

Jennifer Parker was the winner of a contest to design the logo and slogan for the 150th birthday of Morrison sponsored by the Sesquicentennial committee. Her artwork was chosen by a group of assembled community members from business and art. Monday night Bob Vaughn and Stephanie Vavra, co-chairs of the 2005 celebration, approached Morrison City Council with the new logo and slogan, “Memories are Made in Morrison”. The Council embraced the new logo and voted to approve. Mayor Roger Drey also appointed Joe Woith, City Administer, to be a liaison from the City to the Committee. The Morrison Chamber and the Sesquicentennial committee will be working together to order banners for the light poles downtown with the logo and slogan on them.

In August of this year, a corporation was formed to put together the celebration. The board of directors for the Sesquicentennial is made of the two co-chairs along with Roy Velde, Jack Ottosen, Jan Drolema, Jennifer Parker, and Warren Bohnhoff.

The birthday party will culminate on July 8,9, and 10 of 2005, so mark you calendars. The committee is asking residents to not only attend but that residents, organizations, businesses, and the government be part of the celebration.
