Giving Thanks to Military members overseas...

Thanksgiving Day in Morrison is a day to enjoy family and friends while eating hard prepared feasts of turkey, dressing and pie. This day of Thanksgiving needs to also be mindful of those members of the military serving in faraway places such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea and so many remote locations almost never in the news like small bases in the Aleutian Islands off the coast of Alaska or the highly secret base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

These 19 and 20 year olds are sometimes away from their families for the first time in their lives, guarding and serving their country. The military services go to great lengths during the Thanksgiving holiday to bring the traditional turkey and dressing dinners direct to all service people no matter where they might be stationed. This writer spent 2 Thanksgivings in Viet Nam and remembers well each of those holidays brought fresh turkey and dressing direct into the most remote of places and it also served as a reminder that America does indeed remember all who wish to defend this great country. No matter what your politics or opinions on American foreign policy, those are our men and women in harm's way and not sitting at your table today.
