Open House Will Feature Vegter's Trains

Round House on Bob Vegter's Train Layout

Agriculture is a major part of Vegter's Layout

Vegter has had as many as 10 people running trains through his electronic control system.

Morrison Round Robin Railroaders 2003 Open House will be November 15 and 16 from 1-4 pm.

Bob Vegter’s train layout snakes around his basement with changing scenery and speeding trains. There are agricultural scenes, farm buildings, small towns, and train yards. His business (Green and Clean) keeps him busy all summer, but when cold weather sets in, he devotes 8-10 hours each week putting together buildings and adding scenery to the layout he been building for the last five years. Every year he invites the public to view his trains during the Morrison Round Robin Railroaders open house. His popular HO will again be able to be viewed November 15 and 16 from 1-4 pm in the basement of his home at 12810 Masters Drive on the Cross Creek Golf Course.

He has been collecting and running trains for the past 45-50 years, ever since he received his first American Flyer s-gage set for Christmas. Currently his HO layout has approximately 500-600 feet of track and is electronically controlled by one station. He has had as many as ten people running trains at one time. The entire track has been set but he is still adding and changing scenery.

Monthly he goes to Chicago to the train shows to pick up more equipment, parts, and scenery. He has over 100 engines and many more cars. Vegter collects anything train related, from prints to memorabilia. His favorite line is Chicago Northwestern but he has Burlington Northern and other lines. Vegter’s layout is definitely worth the price of admission and more (it’s free).
