Credit Union Gets Face-lift

MorrisonCommunity Federal Credit Union had a face-lift.

The Credit Union as it looked before the remodeling.

When some men and women reach 40 years of age, they start thinking about improvements and sometimes a facelift is needed. Morrison Community Federal Credit Union, 204 East Main, is celebrating their 40th birthday with a facelift. By restoring an old looking front, they are keeping the historical theme of downtown Morrison.

They decided to remodel historical after finding out about the grant from the Historic Preservation Commission, who would help pay for remodeling if it was historical. Last year they replaced the door, and now the windows and woodwork are being updated. When the construction is complete, new cloth will be placed on the existing roll out canvas awning.

“With new insulation and windows, it’s so much quieter now. We can’t hear the trains or cars running anymore,” according to Betty Schutt, manager of the Credit Union. “Customers have been very positive about the changes.”

Shambaugh Construction is doing the current remodeling and according to Ms. Schutt, Rich Glazier worked on the original remodeling. Roger Smith and Steve Wolf, Glazier’s crew, are now updating it. Originally the Credit Union building was a pool hall run by Leonard Leek. Later it was an antique shop before the Credit Union moved in on September 24, 1982. They were originally around the corner in the current Design Line Connection building on Cherry Street. At that time the Credit Union remodeled the inside but the only changes to the outside were painting and a new sign.

Glazier says, “It’s been a pleasure to do this job.” The Credit Union board originally designed the changes but Glazier made suggestions.

No open house is planned but they will celebrate Credit Union Day next month with an open house for their customers.
