Visiting Classes

Mrs. Johannsen will be visiting all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade English classes in the next few weeks. Freshmen will be introduced to individual career plan folders and the sophomores and juniors will update their folders. Other topics of discussion will include college planning, the tech prep program, articulation credits with Sauk Valley Community College, course sequences, and graduation requirements.

Students who did not sign up for this week's consumer education proficiency test and would like to be included in the group to take the test in January may see Mrs. Johannsen for details.

Mrs. Johannsen made career presentations to students enrolled this semester in both the consumer life skills class and the careers class. Students completed a self-directed search questionnaire that will assist them in identifying some occupations that they may want to investigate. The students learned that the goal of career searching is to match an individual's interests, activities, and competencies with occupations that allow those abilities and interests to flourish. After completing the questionnaire and identifying their personality type, students were given time to go online and investigate the occupations suggested to them in the survey results. Their online search provided each student a general overview of his/her chosen occupation, the expected wages in Illinois, the working conditions and physical demands of the job, the knowledge and preparation required, helpful high school courses, hiring practices, licensing/certification procedures, as well as advancement opportunities in the field.
