Shirley J. Anderson, 94, of Prophetstown, IL, died Monday, May 29, 2017, at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center in Prophetstown.
Shirley was born November 9, 1922, in Memphis, NE, the third daughter of Elmer F. and Mary Kathryn (Replogle) Ziegenbein. She was educated in the rural Memphis grade schools and was a 1939 graduate of Ashland High School in Ashland, NE. She married Robert E. Anderson on December 17, 1942, in Omaha, NE. He died December 5, 2013. Shirley was employed at a Nebraska Ordinance Plant and the Green River Ordinance Plant in Amboy, IL. She farmed with her late husband, Bob, in the Prophetstown area for 30 years. She was also a school bus driver for the Crestview and Prophetstown-Lyndon School District for 29 years. Shirley was a member of Prophetstown United Methodist Church, active in several of the church’s organizations and committees, and was a member of the Julie Circle and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Prophetstown Chapter, where she was Past Matron. She was a Past President of the Tuesday Evening Club and several other community organizations. She was the first President of Crestview Community Club when it formed. Shirley enjoyed flower gardening, working out-of-doors, and baking. Shirley’s family was very important to her and always came first.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary (LaVerne) Bennett of Prophetstown; two sons, William (Pat) Anderson of Morrison, IL, and David (Gina) Anderson of Prophetstown; ten grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, William (Connie) Ziegenbein of Monterey, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; three sisters, Arline Elseman, Kathryn Buck, and Olive Schulz; two brothers, Lloyd Ziegenbein and one in infancy.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 2, 2017, at Prophetstown United Methodist Church, Prophetstown, IL
VISITATION: 9:30 a.m., until the time of the service, on Friday, June 2, 2017, at Prophetstown United Methodist Church, Prophetstown, IL
INTERMENT: Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown, IL
