On Saturday, April 16, 2016, shortly after 11:00 a.m., Whiteside County Correction Officers discovered Walter E. Divers, 28 years old, unresponsive in his cell at the Whiteside County Jail. Deputies immediately removed Divers from his cell and began performing life saving measures. Morrison Ambulance personnel arrived, and Divers was transported to Morrison Community Hospital. Divers was later pronounced dead at Morrison Community Hospital.
This death is being investigated by the Illinois State Police, which is a standard policy, any time there may be a death in the Whiteside County Jail. Any questions should be referred to the Illinois State Police or the Whiteside Coroner Office.
