Sheriff’s Office and Rock Falls Fire Department to Help Boaters

Posted by

Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office and Rock Falls Fire Department have teamed up to help boaters in Whiteside County.  The agencies will re-place channel markers on the Rock River.

Pictured are Sheriff John F. Booker, left, and Deputy Chief Cris Bouwens, of Rock Falls Fire Department, standing in front of new, green and red channel markers.

During the next several weeks, the Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office will place the markers in the river, to help with safer boating for all persons traveling on the water in Whiteside County.

Sheriff Booker was asked what the different color channel markers mean.  “When you are traveling upstream on a body of water, the red markers indicate the right side of the channel; the green markers indicate the left side of the channel.  When traveling downstream, it would be the opposite.  In between the markers is the navigational channel, outside of which you should not travel.”

Sheriff Booker and Deputy Chief Bouwens are very happy to be able to replace the missing Channel markers with new ones, that are marked with WCSD and RFFD.
