Sharon Jane Habben, 79, of Morrison, IL, died Sunday June 27, 2021, at St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, IL.
Sharon was born January 25, 1942, in Morrison, IL, to Clayton and Thelma (Renkes) Dykema. She graduated from Morrison High School in 1960, and in 1964 she graduated from Hope College in Holland, MI. On August 7, 1964, she married Duane “Barney” Habben in Morrison. For several years Sharon taught in elementary schools throughout the Whiteside County area. She was proud of her work with the Gifted Program in the Morrison Elementary Schools. Sharon loved cooking and catering. She began the Sugar and Spice Shoppe, originally operating on Main Street in Morrison, and later in her home. She enjoyed this venture for over 20 years. She was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison and served on many committees. Sharon also started and organized the Morrison Farmers Market. She was an avid reader and enjoyed writing articles for local newspapers. Sharon also supported Barney’s interest in auctioneering, writing many of his sale bills.
Survivors include her husband, Duane; sons, Christopher (Amy) Habben of Shawnee, KS, and Corey Habben of Silver Springs, MD; two grandchildren, Maggie Habben and Clayton Habben; sisters, Marla Irion of Dubuque, IA, and Ann Bush of Davenport, IA; sister-in-law, Nancy (Everett) Pannier of Morrison; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law, Steven Bush and Ken Irion.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
There will be a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 2, 2021, at the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, officiated by Rev. J. T. Bean.
A Memorial Visitation will precede the service, starting at 10:00 a.m.
The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.
