While Hosta plants come in varied colors, sizes, textures, and bloom times, there are many more shade-loving beauties from which to choose. They often give the gardener a similar effect.
Whiteside County Master Gardeners prepared a “Demonstration Shade Garden,” at University of Illinois Extension Office, 12923 Lawrence Road, in Sterling, IL. On Saturday, May 1, 2021, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., attend a presentation explaining these popular plants and other shade lovers.
Tour the garden for ideas to use at your home. Participants will receive a Shade Garden Booklet.
Registration is limited to 25 participants; participants will be required to follow social distancing guidelines. Register online at go.illinois.edu/WhitesideShadeTour or call the Whiteside County Extension office at 815-632-3611.
The garden is a communal project of active, certified Master Gardeners, who contributed plants from their gardens. One Master Gardener is, and continues to be, the Coordinator, designing the layout, in order to maximize each plant’s unique qualities and to display each properly. Plants are labeled with a corresponding booklet describing the color, size, bloom time, and distinguishing features of each specimen.
