September 26 Sheriff’s Office Report

9-25-16 at 2:25 p.m.  Whiteside County Deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries on W. Lincolnway and Emerson Road, rural Sterling, IL.  A vehicle driven by Samuel A. Vickery, age 20 of Plano, IL, was traveling westbound on W. Lincolnway when Samuel lost control of his vehicle, causing it to slide sideways on the roadway.  Glen L. Wicks III, age 54 of Rock Falls, IL, was riding his motorcycle eastbound and saw the sliding vehicle coming towards him. Taking evasive action, Glen laid the bike down to try and avoid the crash with the vehicle.  Glen’s passenger, Melissa A. Wicks, age 56 also of Rock Falls, was injured and transported to CGH for treatment.  Glen refused treatment on scene for his minor injuries.  Meanwhile, Samuel was arrested for Driving Too Fast for Conditions and Driving While License Suspended.  He was transported to the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, processed, and released with a Notice to Appear. Sterling Fire, Rock Falls Fire, CGH EMS, and Slim-n-Hank’s assisted on scene.

9-24-16 at 3:08 p.m. Whiteside County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 88 near mile marker 35.  Upon further investigation, Nolan J. McCue, age 24 of Aurora, IL, was issued a citation for a Scott’s Law violation as well as Expired Registration.  McCue was released from the scene with a Notice to Appear and a mandated court appearance.

9-23-16 at 8:28 a.m. A vehicle stopped on 1st Avenue in Rock Falls, IL, for defective exhaust resulted in the arrest of the passenger, Brett E. Benters, age 33 of Sterling, IL, for civil violation of cannabis and a civil violation of drug paraphernalia.  The driver, Beth L. Higbee, age 39 also of Sterling, was issued a written warning for the defective exhaust.

9-21-16 at 2:01 p.m.  Whiteside County Deputies arrested Clay D. Velazquez, age 18 of Rock Falls, IL, for Criminal Damage to State Supported Property, following the investigation of damage at Westwood Fitness and Sports Center, Sterling, IL.  Velazquez was transported to the Whiteside County Jail, where he was processed for the charge and held in lieu of bond.

9-21-16 at 9:47 a.m.  Whiteside County Deputies arrested Ester J. Garza, age 26 of Sterling, IL, for an outstanding Lee County Warrant for Failure to Appear on a Driving While License Suspended charge.  Garza was transported to the Whiteside County Jail, where she was held in lieu of bond.

9-20-16 at 1:50 p.m.  Parker J. Baker, age 25 of New Bedford, IL, was stopped on IL Route 40 south of Rock Falls, IL, for No Front Registration Plate.  He was subsequently arrested for Expired Registration (1/2016) and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.  Additionally, he was given a written warning for no front plate and obstructed registration.

9-15-16 at 12:30 a.m.  Cory J. Mitchell, age 40 of Clinton, IA, was stopped in Morrison, IL, for Failure to Signal Turn.  He was arrested for No Valid Driver’s License and Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, processed at the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, and released on an I-bond.  Morrison Police and Hunter’s Towing assisted on scene.

9-15-16 at 6:15 p.m.  Whiteside County Deputies responded to a vehicle crash involving a bicycle and injuries, on Prairie Center Road near Dixie Drive rural Morrison, IL.  A vehicle driven by Daniel P. Luhrsen, age 49 of Morrison, was traveling westbound on Prairie Center Road when he failed to see a westbound bicycle ridden by Roger A. Stuart, age 64 also of Morrison.  Dan’s vehicle struck the rear of the bicycle, ejecting Roger from the bicycle and causing injury.  Roger was transported to Morrison Community Hospital and later flown to Rockford, IL, for treatment of his injuries.  Dan was cited for Driving Too Fast for Conditions. Morrison Fire, Morrison Police, and Morrison Community Hospital EMS assisted on scene.

9-15-16 at 10:10 p.m.  David O. Echebarria, age 26 of Fulton, IL, was stopped for inoperative rear registration light and defective exhaust.  He was cited for No Driver’s License and Failure to Update Secretary of State then I-bonded on scene.  A written warning was issued for inoperative rear registration light and defective exhaust.
