September 26 Morrison City Council Report

The Monday, September 26, 2022, meeting of the Morrison City Council was opened with a Thank You to the City of Morrison, from Paint the Town coordinator John Martin. He wrote that the weather extinguished the usual gathering of artists and creative organizations, but noted that many still contributed to the event around the rain. He said that registration equaled 1175; 65 painters returned to the streets on Sunday to complete their creation on concrete. Martin explained the electrical and water needs to offer the fulfillment of all promises [to participants.] He informed the Council that accommodations were lacking this year, due to the new street renovation. Martin asked for cooperation for an improved 2023 effort to maximize the event.

Liz Buckwalter, new Executive Director of Morrison Area Development Corporation (MADC), introduced herself. She promised a cooperative relationship with the City under her direction to “move Morrison forward.”

Lori Matlack, Public Services Director, updated the Council on the progress being made in the refurbishing of the Baseball diamond at the Sports Complex. Drainage is complete and the clay removed. The addition of limestone and aggregate [will] be added as the project moves forward, with completion due this fall.

Mayor Scott Vandermyde reported the opening date of the new coffee shop on the corner of Orange Street and W. Lincolnway is estimated for the first week in October. He reminded those in attendance that the City Hallowe’en Trick-or-Treat hours are 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Monday, October 31.

In Action Items, the Council agreed to the proposed resurfacing of the Softball diamonds at the Sports Complex and asked City Administrator Brian Melton to research additional bids for the project.

Restoration efforts at the Sports Complex require formation of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Morrison School District. That first draft will be available for review at the next Council meeting.

Considerations of changing the City Council meeting start times was discussed. The time of 6:30 p.m. was set for the next Council meeting on Monday, October 12, 2022.
