On Thursday, September 12, 2019, at 5:57 a.m., Whiteside County Deputies were dispatched to the area of Smith Road and Freeport Road, in rural Deer Grove, IL, for a single-vehicle, motorcycle traffic crash. During the investigation Deputies were able to determine Craig Freeman 43 years old of Walnut, IL, was traveling southbound on Smith Road, when he failed to negotiate through a curve. Freeman traveled off the roadway into a wooded area. Freeman was pronounced dead at the scene by Whiteside County Coroner Joseph McDonald. Whiteside County Deputies were assisted at the scene by Walnut Fire and Ambulance, Whiteside County Coroner, and Todd’s Towing.
