Collector and Quilter Connie Barr will describe her exhibit of vintage aprons, dating back to the 1920s and 1930s, at a program at Odell Public Library in the Program Room, on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. The address is 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL.
Many locals will recognize Connie from Sullivan’s Grocery Store in Morrison, where she wears many hats and an apron.
Because the styles of clothes were not suitable to her size, she began to look at fabric and patterns. With a little help, she began sewing at the age of seven.
When the Volkman factory closed in Morrison, she found another job: opening a quilt shop! Not only did she sell fabric, but Connie taught quilting and even held quilting parties. This shop, in a closed schoolhouse, housed a varied assortment of fabric and was open for 22 years.
After receiving a variety of aprons, she began to look for more. She was intrigued by the fabrics and the time periods they were made. She searches both antique and thrift shops to add to her collection.
If you choose, bring a favorite apron or, even better, wear it! This will be a fun and interesting program. There is no charge, but donations are always welcome at Odell Public Library.
